Type 01 · Passive System
Sacrificial Anode (Galvanic)
Magnesium or zinc anodes are buried near the tank and electrically connected to the steel structure. Because these metals are more electrochemically active than steel, they corrode in place of the tank and piping — providing continuous, natural protection through galvanic action with no external power source required.
Best For
Newer, well-coated tanks and smaller systems with lower current needs. Ideal for standard UST setups where soil corrosivity is moderate and the tank coating is in good condition.

Maintenance

Type 02 · Active System
Impressed Current (ICCP)
An active system that uses a rectifier to convert AC power to DC and drive a stronger, controlled protective current through buried anodes to the tank system. Because the anodes don't sacrifice themselves as quickly, they are more durable and deliver higher output — making ICCP the right choice when more current is needed.
Best For
Older or bare steel tanks, larger systems, and areas with higher corrosion risk where galvanic systems can't deliver enough current. Common at truck stops and high-volume fuel retail sites.
